Adoption Process

-
Complete an online application via our website.
-
An adoption coordinator will contact you. Applications are regularly reviewed, but please allow up to one week for processing.
-
Once you have spoken to an adoption coordinator, we’ll call your references and veterinarian to ensure that your current/previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well cared for. For renters, we’ll check with your landlord to verify applicable pet policies, and whether there are any size or breed restrictions. Due to Covid-19, home checks are currently virtual.
-
If everything looks good and you want to proceed, we will arrange a Meet and Greet. We require all members of the adopter's household, including current dogs, to meet the dog you want to adopt. Applicants closest to the dog's foster location will be processed first. Some dogs received MANY applications and we are only able to contact those selected for consideration. We try to be fair to all applicants while looking out for the best interests of the dog. If you have questions about the status of your application, please send us an email.
-
After a successful Meet and Greet, with all parties agreed, we will complete your adoption with a contract, payment, and transfer of medical records.

Adoption Guidelines

-
Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
-
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received.
-
All breed ages and if mixed are best guessed by vets and rescue staff, based on available information and exams.
-
We prioritize matching the right animal with the right family to ensure life-long success.
-
We do not transport or ship dogs. You MUST pick up the dog.
-
All of our rescue dogs are fostered in private, volunteer homes. Please allow for flexibility in coordinating the adoption and review process.

Adoption Fees
Please email the division director for the fee.
Why do you have an adoption fee?
We take in many animals in desperate need of expensive medical care. We will never turn a dog away because of its heartworm status or health, but sometimes the adoption fee doesn't begin to cover the costs associated with its care. This donation allows us to provide the highest levels of veterinary care and training to dogs in our care.
Please note that adoption fees are not tax-deductible or refundable.
What is included in your adoption fee?

Upon adoption, all dogs are microchipped with lifetime registration, spayed or neutered, and fully vaccinated. This includes DA2PP and rabies vaccinations (age permitting), plus heartworm testing.
Depending on the vet's recommendation, fecal and bloodwork will be included.
If the dog is heartworm positive, the dog will receive antibiotics, steroids, and fast-kill injections to treat the heartworms.
The dog's health condition will be disclosed prior to adoption
Microchipping

All pets that are rescued through Harlee's Angels are microchipped prior to adoption. This provides information for your pet to be returned to you if he gets lost and ends up at animal control, a veterinary office, or another rescue. Keeping your contact information for your pet up to date is the adopter’s responsibility. Depending upon the manufacturer, there may be a yearly or lifetime registration fee involved, which is not included in adoption fees. Certain divisions require the dog to remain chipped to the rescue.
